Shader: Depth Fade

This camera fade shader has been created in Unreal Engine. It is a simple and well known effect to see a character through meshes without the need of an outline above others. The shader is interactive through exposed material parameters, which allow the developer to modify various properties.

Parameters

  • Distance: Controls the distance between the camera and from which the effect should start.

  • Hardness: Controls the mask’s gradient.

  • Opaque Amount: Controls the maximum percentage of pixels inside the opacity mask.

  • Spring Arm Length: Allows the user to change the length of the spring arm between the camera and the player mesh.
